A Time To Be Born
Sergeant Dontavion LaFrance “Tree” Smith was born December 27, 1976, in Orlando, Florida, to Janice Council and Sylvester Smith.
A Time To Learn
Tree attended Orange County Public Schools, where he graduated in the Class of 1995 from the Jones High School, “Fighting Tigers.”  During his studies at Jones High School, Tree was a varsity basketball team member.  After graduation, he attended Florida Memorial College for a brief period.  In 1998, Tree joined the United States Air Force, serving 14 years, and was honorably medically discharged on July 14, 2012.
A Time To Love
Tree met Janice Rena Jones in the 3rd grade at Pine Hills Elementary School.  Even though they parted ways after middle school, they reunited in 2016.  They were married on May 16, 2020.
A Time To Mourn
On Thursday, April 27, 2023, God dispatched an angel from the gates of heaven to come down and release “Tree” from all his pain and suffering.  He heard the Masters’s voice say, and the scripture declares, “Well Done” thy good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful over a few things, enter thou into the joys of the Lord.
“Tree” is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Edna Council.
He Leaves to Cherish The Memories of His Life
His loving and devoted wife, Janice; his two sons, SirDonovan Smith, and Damarrion Smith; his daughter/niece, Sacara Council; his granddaughter, Nova Smith; his mother, Janice Council; father, Sylvester Smith; his three brothers, Paris Council, Brian (Lou) Bennet, and Shamar Smith, his mother-in-law, Dorothy Jones, his three sisters-in-law, Jaqueline Solomon, Amanda Montford, and Kathy Jones, his best friend, Brad Mattern, and a host of other loving relatives and close friends.

O death where is thy sting? My heart goes out to you my beautiful sweet and loving goddaughter Janice Jones-Smith, I am so very sorry to hear of the sudden transitioning of your husband/ heartmate. It will be tough to face this world without Tree’s presence and his voice but continue to press on even when it feels like you can’t I will be there to encourage and nudge you. Tree I shall miss our phone conversations and our love of Florida Gator paraphernalia. Janice may GOD himself comfort you, Mr. Sylvester, Ms. Janice Council, SirDonavan and Duke and all others affected by Tree’s transitioning. To be absent in the body is to be present with the LORD. My condolences go out to Dontavian’s family and friends. I had the pleasure of serving with “Tree” at Holloman AFB, NM. His smile and laughter were contagious even if you were having a bad day. When he spoke, everyone listened. He was an awesome leader and a great friend. You will be Truley missed.
