Obituary

Dennis Adolph Johnson

Dennis Adolph Johnson, born June 27, 1950 in Key West, Florida, was the second child of the late Yvonne Lois Evans Johnson and Francisco Alexander Johnson, Jr.  Also, the grandson of the late Alfred Milton Evans, Margaret J. Evans and Malvise Pinder Gibson and step-grandfather, Archibald Gibson.

Dennis graduated from Key West High School in 1968 where he was a track athlete. He continued his education at Florida Keys Junior College and received his Bachelor of Science from the school of Pharmacy in 1976 from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). In 1975 he was initiated into the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity. He was certified by the Board of Pharmacy for the State of Florida as a Registered Pharmacist in February of 1980.  After graduation, Dennis spent most of his career in both Key West and Miami, Florida working in hospitals and pharmacies under the name of the HCA Healthcare, Inc.

Dennis was baptized and confirmed in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Key West, Florida. His church affiliation in Miami was St. Agnes Episcopal Church and sometimes attended the Church of the Incarnation. After retiring in 2006, he moved to Orlando where he attended the Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist. Dennis was an avid reader and wanted both his family members and church members to read. So, he bought many books and issued them freely. Although he was a loner, his ministry was to inform as many people as possible about what websites to view to educate themselves. He did not eat much but supported the church food pantry so others can eat.  He was generous to those he cared about and those who were in need.

After a long illness, Dennis spent the last six months at Madison of Ocoee (assistant living). On April 25, 2023, he slipped away peacefully from this life and leaves behind to cherish his memory his four siblings: Francisco A. Johnson, III, Miami, Florida, Ronald E. Johnson, Seattle, Washington, Marsha J. Sumner, Longwood, Florida and Sonja M. Johnson, Orlando, Florida; a Sister-in-law, Patricia Bannister Johnson, Perry, Georgia; Six Nieces and Nephews, De’Shawn Spears, Michael D. Sumner (Tori), Christopher Johnson, Coby Johnson (Erica), Denise M. Sumner, Rachel E. Jones (Christopher); eight grand nieces and nephews: Anjali M. McFadden, Charles B. Johnson, Joshua A. Johnson, Michael Sumner II, Imani R. Jones, Cameron B. Jones, Michiah Sumner and Chase B. Jones; One aunt, Nancy N. Rodriguez; One uncle, Alfred Evans, Jr. (Willa Mae); Godchild, L’Oreal Hall and a host of cousins and sorrowing friends who will miss him greatly.
