Frances Walker-Brown Obituary
With angels singing, Frances Walker-Brown was born October 23, 1937, in Cedar Grove, West Virginia, to Frank and Marion Walker. She was the youngest of six children, who all preceded her in death.
Frances’s appreciation for education began at an early age while attending public school in Cedar Grove, West Virginia. She pursued her education throughout her life, attending City College of San Francisco and receiving her Business Administration degree from Pace University in New York City.
Frances’ gift for finance and business steered her to work for IBJ Whitehall Financial Group for over 20+ years, rising to vice president of accounting before retiring to Orlando, Florida. However, the retirement life was not for Frances as she took a position with Centerplate at the Orange County Convention Center as Supervisor of the Money Room, where she worked for 18 years.
Frances remained an affectionate and devoted mother to Frank, Sonya (deceased 2021), and Regina. She enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love language was of a giving and a kind-hearted spirit. She enjoyed shopping, reading, collecting African American art, sports (Go Chicago Bulls!), and gardening. However, she genuinely loved the holidays and spending time with family and friends.
Frances loved the Lord and remained an active member of Saint Mark AME Church in Orlando, Florida. She participated in the Prayer Band, Finance Committee, Living Stones Academy, and Sunday School Teacher.
On May 22, 2021, in Ocoee, Florida, Frances Walker-Brown gained her wings. God saw the road gets tough and the hills too high to climb. God whispered to Frances, “You’ve fought a good fight, you’ve finished your course, and you’ve kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for you a crown of righteousness.” She was 83 years old.
She leaves to cherish her memory: son – Frank (Jane) Walker; daughter – Regina Walker; son-in-law – Craig McNeil; grandchildren – Rahmel Jefferies, Déja Grant, and Ethan Walker; great-grandchildren – Isis, Jahtee and Shaprae Jefferies; and great-great-grandchild – Azelynn Jefferies; nieces and nephews of the Pemberton family; along with a host of friends.

February 28, 2024 at 7:33 AMThe year was 1985. I was a Bank Teller that was diligently looking for an opportunity as an Accountant. After every interview I was told “you lack experience” and with this I continued my search. I went on an interview at J Henry Schroder Bank and Trust.. While in the reception area a women greeted me and said please come with me. It was Fran Brown. The interview was like no other I’d been on. She was selling the job to me. She said for example “If you’re a teller you can do Bank Reconciliation”. With this she opened the door of my career to the Banking industry. After 39 years I am forever grateful to her for the opportunity she gave me, her guidance, encouragement and example of commitment and professionalism. We affectionally referred to her as “The Big Lady” because of the level of respect she received, her boldness, in addition to protection and opportunities to grow she provided to all on her team.
